How often should I be posting on social media?

How often should I be posting on social media?

This is a great question and I get asked it quite a lot. If only it was a quick answer! All platforms demand different levels, so to answer this properly, I need to talk about all of the 6 main social media platforms.

Posting frequency on social media

But first you have to be honest with yourself – just how much time have you got to spend on creating content? Setting yourself an unrealistic target isn’t going to be helpful in the long run and the odd flurry of posts here and there will actually anger the algorithm robots and they won’t reward you with good reach! Make sure that what you decide is sustainable, this way you’re more likely to stick to your good habit.

When you determine the number of posts you are going to do daily/weekly be consistent. Consistency really is the winning formula. Learn more about the value of consistency here.

How often you should post on Facebook

My clients know that Facebook is one of my favourite platforms! It has so many useful functions that can help a business to really grow and maintain visibility.

This social media giant puts a lot of effort into giving its users what they want and need, so we’re bound to see lots more functions very soon.

Hubspot (an innovative software company) is continually researching best practices for social media and analysing trends. They recently discovered that when a Facebook account posts too many times this actually puts followers off – some accounts have actually lost around 50% of their followers by increasing the number of times they post!

My optimum recommendations for posting on Facebook:

Max: Twice a day.

Min: Three times a week.

How often you should post on Twitter

Tweets are short, sharp pieces of information. They have the shortest life span out of all the social media platforms so it’s key for companies to post frequently to make sure that they are seen. After 15 minutes of tweeting, a tweet can disappear making way for newer tweets. From extensive research Hubspot suggests tweeting between 15 to 23 times a day if you’re really serious about growing your business quickly on Twitter.

My optimum recommendations for posting on Twitter:

Max: 30 times a day.

Min: Once a day.

How often you should post on LinkedIn

I’m a big fan of LinkedIn, it’s a place to strengthen connections and network as well as tell others about your product or service. And the beauty of LinkedIn is that not many of its users actually use it for posting! So, if you start to post consistently, you’ll already be ahead of your competitors who don’t. But don’t be tempted to post too much as research suggests that those who post more than once a day actually put off their connections which can lead to being unfollowed.

My optimum recommendations for posting on LinkedIn:

Max: Once a day.

Min: 3 times a week

How often you should post on Instagram

This social media platform is really gaining popularity for businesses, especially since the introduction of the shop feature. When you start out on Instagram make sure to post once or twice a day to gain traction. It’s very image led but don’t be worried that every photo has to be perfect, your followers will also gain enjoyment from seeing what you get up to during the day, so a simple selfie ‘doing the do’ will be more than ok every now and then.

My optimum recommendations for posting on Instagram:

Max: Twice a day.

Min: 1 or 2 posts a week.

How often you should post on YouTube

When I first started out on YouTube, I posted the occasional video here and there and achieved very little in the way of growth. I’m now consistent and go live every Monday at 12.30. This has helped its growth and as it’s at the same time every week, my followers know when to expect a new video.  This consistency pleases YouTube’s algorithm robots! Remember, all social media platforms aim to provide the best experience to its millions of users.

How often you should post on Pinterest

If you’ve an online shop, you should
be on Pinterest as it loves links – in fact, it actively encourages its users
to leave the platform and head to a website which is of interest to them. It
also likes its users to post a lot every day. To start your Pinterest growth,
between 10 and 25 posts a day should do the trick.

My optimum recommendations for posting on Pinterest:

Max: 25 posts a day.

Min: 5 a day.

But that’s not all:

If only it was that easy, posting the optimum number of times is just one element that you need in place to achieve success on social media.
